Social Media Proxies

Reddit Proxy

A Reddit proxy routes your Reddit traffic through an IP address from the country and network type you choose, giving each brand, moderator or research account a consistent identity. Long-lived accounts use static residential IPs, mobile views use 4G/5G, and data monitoring uses rotating residential IPs.

Which proxy when?

Sticky or static proxies suit long sessions and account consistency; rotating proxies fit high-volume crawling and distributed requests. Pick the closest product below.

IPv6 proxy packages are a cost-effective option, but the target site must support IPv6. You can check whether a site supports IPv6 with the IPv6 Checker. If you need help, contact our support team.

What is a Reddit proxy used for?

A Reddit proxy determines which IP address, country and network type your Reddit traffic exits from. It does not change the account itself, the quality of your content or the community rules. Legitimate uses fall into three groups.

Brand community management

Many brands run their own subreddit or reply in related communities with an official account. When an agency or a distributed team opens that account from different cities and networks, the login history looks scattered. Assigning a fixed exit IP to the account creates a consistent profile where logins come from one location and reduces unexpected verification steps.

Market research on public subreddits

Product feedback, complaints in competitor categories, price perception and feature requests accumulate in public subreddits. Research teams track these threads for specific keywords and communities. A proxy helps in two ways here: checking content and search visibility from different countries, and separating collection work from the office IP. For the general framework, see the market research use case.

Collected data should stay at the content level: thread titles, post text, scores and comment counts. Combining usernames to build individual profiles can conflict with privacy regulations such as GDPR and KVKK, in addition to Reddit's rules. Anonymizing usernames for analysis and reporting only aggregate trends is the safer method. Not retaining deleted posts is part of the same principle.

Separating team accounts

Moderator teams, community managers and support agents log in to Reddit with several accounts from the same office network. Accounts coming from the same IP and interacting in the same threads can look linked to Reddit's manipulation detection. Binding each person's account to its own static IP prevents that confusion. The social media use case describes the same logic for other platforms.

Should you use the Reddit API or scraping?

The official way to access Reddit data is the Data API. You register an app, obtain a token via OAuth and send requests through oauth.reddit.com. Reddit asks API clients for a unique, descriptive User-Agent; the recommended format is platform:app-id:version (by /u/username). Generic values such as python-requests are limited more often.

The free access limit Reddit publishes is 100 queries per minute per OAuth client ID, and unauthenticated requests are subject to a much lower limit. This counter is tied to the client ID, not the IP. Using the same OAuth client from ten different proxy IPs does not raise the quota. Commercial use, model training and high-volume access require a separate agreement; the conditions are in the Reddit Data API Terms.

Collecting web pages with automated tools is restricted by the Reddit User Agreement, which prohibits automated data collection outside permitted means. The practical result: use the API first for research and monitoring. In this scenario a proxy is not there to exceed the quota; it fixes which country requests exit from, separates the office network and keeps the exit consistent.

Which proxy type fits which Reddit job?

On Reddit, the right proxy type depends on whether the job needs a session and how long the account must appear with the same identity. Every logged-in job needs a static or sticky session. Public read jobs that need no login can run with short sticky sessions or per-request rotation.

If you are undecided between mobile and residential, the mobile vs residential comparison explains the difference in detail. For sticky versus rotating sessions, read the sticky vs rotating guide.

Why does Reddit often block datacenter IPs?

Datacenter IPs are registered to the ASNs of cloud and hosting providers. Home users do not connect to Reddit from these blocks, so Reddit treats datacenter and VPN ranges more strictly in logged-out web traffic. Typical results are a 403 response, a page saying you have been blocked by network security, or a redirect that forces a login.

Residential IPs come from home internet connections, mobile IPs from carrier networks. Because mobile carriers share one public IP among many subscribers through CGNAT, platforms are more cautious about blocking these addresses wholesale. This is not a guarantee; if behavior is abusive, residential or mobile IPs get limited too.

Where a datacenter IP makes sense on Reddit is OAuth-authenticated API traffic. There the request is bound to an app and an account, and the limit runs on the client ID. For a general comparison of IP types, see the residential, mobile, datacenter and ISP proxy guide.

How do you handle 429 errors and rate limits on Reddit?

429 Too Many Requests means Reddit is limiting your request rate. It is not an error the proxy produces; WeProxy packages have no thread or concurrent session limit. API responses report the remaining quota in headers:

  • X-Ratelimit-Used: requests used in the current window
  • X-Ratelimit-Remaining: requests remaining
  • X-Ratelimit-Reset: seconds until the window resets

Your client should slow down when Remaining drops and wait for the Reset period when a 429 arrives. Use exponential backoff (1, 2, 4, 8 seconds) instead of retrying at a fixed interval. Spreading the same OAuth client across several IPs does not change the outcome, because the counter is kept on the client ID.

In logged-out web traffic the limit runs on IP and User-Agent. Here too the fix is to lower the rate first, then correct the IP type. Piling hundreds of concurrent requests onto one IP produces 429 and CAPTCHAs even in a residential pool. Detailed diagnosis of the codes is in the proxy error codes guide.

How do you separate IPs for moderator and team accounts?

Using more than one account on Reddit is not forbidden in itself. The problem is when accounts from the same IP appear to vote in the same threads or support each other. Apply these rules to keep team work clean.

One account, one IP

Give each account its own static IP and open that account only through that IP. A static residential IP does not change during the period; a mobile sticky session can be held for up to 60 minutes and a residential sticky session for up to 24 hours. Static IPs suit long-lived accounts, sticky sessions suit short test sessions.

Location, time zone and language alignment

The IP country, the browser time zone, the Accept-Language header and the account's posting hours should not contradict each other. For a brand account in Türkiye, a Türkiye exit IP makes sense. WeProxy's Türkiye static residential packages come from the Türk Telekom and Vodafone networks and support HTTP and SOCKS5; there is no UDP in the Türkiye location. For choosing a country and city, see the proxy geo-targeting guide.

Browser profile and leaks

Open each account in a separate browser profile with separate cookies. WebRTC and DNS leaks can undo IP separation; the checklist is in the DNS leak guide.

Warm-up for new accounts

A newly created account has no karma and no history. Many subreddits use AutoModerator to remove posts from accounts below a certain age or karma threshold automatically. In the first days with a new brand account, answer comments and questions, leave link sharing for later and read each community's rules. A proxy does not shorten this process.

How do you set up a Reddit proxy step by step?

  1. Choose the product. For a long-term brand or moderator account choose Static Residential IPv4; for the mobile view choose Rotating Mobile IPv4 or Mobile 4G/5G Proxy; for public data monitoring choose Rotating Residential IPv4.
  2. Buy in the panel. Select the package and location and complete payment. Connection details appear in the customer panel: host, port, username and password. For gateway products the address takes the form gw.weproxy.com.tr:8989.
  3. Enter the details in your tool. Set host, port, username and password in your browser profile, antidetect browser, script or automation tool. Authentication works with username/password or IP whitelist. If you need different formats, the proxy format converter helps. Mobile 4G/5G Proxy supports HTTP only.
  4. Verify the exit. Open the My IP tool in the same profile and check that the IP, country and ASN shown are the expected values. The same check from the command line:
curl -x "http://USER:[email protected]:8989" https://api.ipify.org
  1. Run the first test. Open Reddit without logging in first and confirm the page loads normally. Then log in and browse a few pages. If you use the API, send one authenticated request and read the X-Ratelimit-Remaining header. If something is wrong, test the proxy itself separately with the proxy checker.

What are Reddit's rules and the limits of a proxy?

Reddit's rules explicitly prohibit vote manipulation, spam and ban evasion. Voting on the same post with several accounts, boosting your own content from other accounts, using purchased votes or comments, and returning with a new account after being banned from a subreddit or the site all fall under this. Reddit suspends accounts in these cases and can close linked accounts as well; changing the IP does not change the rule.

A proxy changes only the network layer. It does not affect the browser fingerprint, account history, content quality or moderator decisions. That is why no proxy guarantees an account will not be restricted. WeProxy services are provided under the acceptable use policy; spam, fake engagement and uses that break platform rules fall outside that policy.

The same approach applies to other social platforms: the X proxy and LinkedIn proxy pages describe those platforms' own limits and team account setup.
