A Google proxy routes your requests to Google services through an IP in the country or city you choose, so you see Search, Maps and ad results as a user there would. Rotating residential suits manual ranking and local pack checks; static residential IPs suit signed-in Google accounts.
Sticky or static proxies suit long sessions and account consistency; rotating proxies fit high-volume crawling and distributed requests. Pick the closest product below.
IPv6 proxy packages are a cost-effective option, but the target site must support IPv6. You can check whether a site supports IPv6 with the IPv6 Checker. If you need help, contact our support team.
A Google proxy sends your requests to Google services from an IP address in the country or city you choose instead of from your own connection. Google changes the results page and many of its services based on the user's location. An SEO specialist in Istanbul cannot see what a user in Berlin or Ankara sees from their own connection.
In practice, a Google proxy is used for these legitimate jobs:
hreflang and country versions show up in the right country.YouTube is also a Google service, but its views, recommendations and regional content rules work differently; see the YouTube proxy use case for that. The general SEO framework is covered in the SEO proxy use case, and other search engines on the SEO proxy and Bing proxy pages.
The IP address is only one of the signals Google uses for location. A proxy changes that signal and none of the others. The location line at the bottom of the results page shows where Google took the location from: your IP address, your device or your past activity.
| Signal | What it affects | Does a proxy change it? | How to align it |
|---|---|---|---|
| IP address | Country and approximate city | Yes | Choose an exit in the target country/city |
| Device location (browser permission) | Precise location, local pack | No | Turn off location permission in the browser or manage it per profile |
| Google account settings and past activity | Personalisation, saved home/work address | No | Check while signed out or in a separate profile |
gl parameter | Country of the results | No (it is in the URL) | e.g. gl=tr, gl=de |
hl parameter | Interface language | No (it is in the URL) | e.g. hl=tr, hl=de |
Browser language (Accept-Language) | Interface language, some results | No | Set the profile language for the target market |
A country-code domain (google.com.tr, google.de) does not decide the results country on its own; Google serves results based on location. So opening google.de is not enough to see German results. For manual checks, the cleanest method is a browser profile that exits through an IP in the target country, with the search run as https://www.google.com/search?q=keyword&gl=de&hl=de.
Time zone and language alignment matter too. If the IP looks German while the browser reports the Europe/Istanbul time zone and tr-TR language, the session contradicts itself. DNS and WebRTC leaks can expose your real IP next to the proxy; for a checklist see the DNS leak and WebRTC guide.
The choice depends on two questions: does the job require signing in to a Google account, and how precise does the location need to be? A signed-in account should connect from the same IP every time. For manual checks without sign-in, a new IP per check is not a problem.
| Job | Proxy type | Session mode | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country-level ranking checks | Rotating Residential IPv4 | Rotating or short sticky | 100M+ IP pool, home IPs owned by ISPs, country selection |
| City-level local pack and Maps | Rotating Residential IPv4 | Sticky, one session per check | City/ZIP targeting; same location throughout the check |
| Ad verification and checks that need high trust | Premium Rotating Residential | Sticky | Premium residential pool, city and country targeting |
| Signed-in Google accounts (Ads, Search Console, Merchant Center) | Static Residential IPv4 | Static, 1 IP per account | ISP-sourced IP that stays the same for the period (up to 30 days) |
| US-based team accounts | Static ISP IPv4 | Static | US location only, fixed session for up to 30 days |
| Regional Shopping and Play Store listing checks | Rotating Residential IPv4 | Sticky | Country selection; same IP while you browse the pages |
On the rotating residential product you can pin the same exit IP for up to 24 hours by adding a session ID to the username. When to use sticky and when to use rotating is explained in the sticky vs rotating proxy guide.
Datacenter IPs are registered to hosting companies' ASNs. Google knows that most traffic from these ranges is automated and shows verification to these IPs more often. Datacenter proxies are fast and suit many jobs, but on the Google results page you will usually hit a CAPTCHA even for manual checks. For the differences between IP types, see the residential, mobile, datacenter and ISP comparison.
Google services are reachable over IPv6 too. If your computer has a working IPv6 connection and the proxy profile is IPv4-only, the browser can send some requests over IPv6 directly to your ISP. Google then sees you at your real location rather than in the proxy's country. Check with the IPv6 checker while the profile is active. For ad account scenarios that require an IPv6 exit itself, see the Google Ads IPv6 proxy page.
The message "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network" means Google has decided that requests from an IP may be automated. The page asks for a reCAPTCHA check, and the HTTP response is usually 429. Google explains this on its unusual traffic help page.
Typical causes:
The CAPTCHA page is a warning. The right response is to slow down and reduce the requests piling onto one IP, not to try to solve CAPTCHAs automatically. Sending automated queries to Google Search is against Google's rules; a bigger IP pool does not change that. For reading error codes in general, see the proxy error codes guide.
When an account is signed in to from an unusual location or device, Google asks for extra verification and sends the account owner a security alert. This is a security feature. In agency teams, people connecting to the same Google Ads or Merchant Center account from different cities trigger these alerts often.
In practice:
For newly created Google accounts, it matters that the IP does not change at all in the first weeks. Use the account from the same IP from the very first sign-in and avoid heavy activity in a short time.
In local searches ("dentist near me", "Kadıköy coffee"), Google ranks results by the user's location. The same query shows different businesses in Istanbul and Izmir. That is why choosing a country is not enough for local SEO checks; you need a city-level exit.
Points to watch:
At WeProxy, the rotating residential product offers city and ZIP targeting, and the premium product offers city and country targeting. Türkiye static residential IPv4 packages come with IPs on the Türk Telekom and Vodafone networks and support HTTP and SOCKS5. Türkiye packages have no UDP; Google Search and account management run over TCP, so this is not a limitation. How country, city and ASN targeting works is covered in the proxy geo-targeting guide.

gl and hl parameters if needed. For account management, sign in with one account; complete the verification that appears on a first sign-in from a new location by phone or email.Google's Terms of Service and search spam policies explicitly prohibit sending automated queries and scraping results for rank-checking purposes. A proxy does not change these rules. Generating artificial clicks or impressions on ads is invalid traffic and can lead to the ad account being suspended; for the ads side, see the Google Ads proxy and ad verification use case pages.
