Yandex Proxy

A Yandex proxy routes your Yandex traffic through an IP in the country and city you choose, so you see search results the way a user in that region sees them. Because Yandex results change by city, a city-targeted residential IP is the most consistent setup for regional rank and ad checks.

Which proxy when?

Sticky or static proxies suit long sessions and account consistency; rotating proxies fit high-volume crawling and distributed requests. Pick the closest product below.

IPv6 proxy packages are a cost-effective option, but the target site must support IPv6. You can check whether a site supports IPv6 with the IPv6 Checker. If you need help, contact our support team.

What is a Yandex proxy used for?

A Yandex proxy routes your traffic to Yandex through an IP address in the country and city you choose instead of your own connection. Because Yandex builds search results largely around the user’s region, that IP directly affects which city’s results you see. A proxy changes only the network layer; it does not change your search history, cookies or browser settings.

Yandex matters mainly in Russia and other CIS countries. Yandex also has a presence in Türkiye through yandex.com.tr. SEO teams and brands working in these markets use a Yandex proxy for these legitimate jobs:

  • Regional rank checks. See where a page ranks in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan or Novosibirsk. The same keyword can rank very differently from one city to the next.
  • SERP feature review. Check region-dependent elements such as map blocks, local business cards, shopping and Q&A blocks as they appear in the target city.
  • Yandex Direct ad verification. Confirm that region-targeted ads run in the right city with the right copy and links.
  • Competitor and market research. Track which sites, marketplaces and local businesses lead in the target region.
  • Localization and QA testing. Check how the Russian, Kazakh or Turkish version of your own site is listed on Yandex in that region and how its snippets look.

For the overall SEO proxy setup, see the SEO proxy use case. The same approach applies on the Google proxy and Bing proxy pages.

Why do Yandex results change from city to city?

Yandex ranks results by the user’s region and, for location-dependent queries (services, shops, delivery, “near me” searches), pushes local sites forward. The region comes from several sources:

  • IP address. If no setting is made, Yandex estimates the region from the connection’s IP address.
  • The user’s region setting. Users can pick their region manually in settings; the choice is stored in a browser cookie and can override the IP-based estimate.
  • The lr parameter. The lr value in the search URL is a region ID. For example, lr=213 stands for Moscow and lr=2 for Saint Petersburg.
  • Account and history. In a signed-in Yandex account, search history can personalize results.
  • Device type. Mobile and desktop results can differ even in the same city.

That is why a Yandex page opened from an office in Istanbul is not the page a user in Moscow sees.

How do the lr parameter and the IP work together?

The lr parameter tells Yandex which region to build results for, but on its own it is not enough. Selecting a region with lr while the IP points to another country can make some SERP elements (maps, local cards, ads) look different than expected. The most consistent result comes when the IP’s city and the lr value point to the same region.

Practical rule: first confirm the proxy’s exit city with the IP lookup tool, then query with the lr value of the same city. Matching IP and region keeps results close to what a real user in that city sees. Country, city and ASN targeting is explained in the proxy geo-targeting guide.

Which proxy type should I choose for Yandex?

The choice depends on whether the job requires an account login and how many cities you check. For SERP checks without login, IP changes are not a problem. For work done in a Yandex account, the IP must stay fixed.

Residential or datacenter for Yandex?

Datacenter IPs are registered to hosting companies’ ASNs, and search engines usually apply stricter checks to automated traffic from those ranges. On Yandex this means more frequent CAPTCHAs and shorter-lived IPs. Residential IPs come from internet providers’ home-user ranges, and their city data is closer to the subscriber’s real location; that is the main value for regional SERP work. For a detailed comparison, read residential vs datacenter proxies.

How do you run regional rank checks on Yandex correctly?

To get accurate results, network, browser and query settings must all point to the same region. Checklist:

  • Work without logging in. Searches in a personal Yandex account are personalized by history. Use a clean, signed-out profile for rank checks.
  • Manage cookies together with the region. A region chosen in an earlier session can stay in a cookie and override the new IP’s region. Use a separate profile per city or clear cookies.
  • Keep language and time zone aligned. A Moscow IP with Accept-Language: ru-RU and the Europe/Moscow time zone forms a consistent picture. For Türkiye checks, use tr-TR and Europe/Istanbul.
  • Fix the device type. Measure mobile and desktop results separately; do not mix them in one report.
  • Open the pages of one query from the same IP. If the IP changes between the first and second results page, you can see a different region or a different ranking. Use a short sticky session for this; the logic is explained in the sticky vs rotating proxy guide.
  • Keep the rate low. WeProxy packages have no thread or concurrent session limit, but Yandex sets the limit. Sending many queries from one IP in a short time triggers CAPTCHAs quickly.
  • Close leaks. WebRTC and DNS leaks can expose your real IP next to the proxy; see the checklist in the DNS leak and WebRTC guide.

What should you do when a Yandex CAPTCHA appears?

Yandex shows a “confirm you are not a robot” page on traffic that looks automated. Yandex also offers this CAPTCHA technology to websites under the name SmartCaptcha. A CAPTCHA shows that Yandex finds the traffic from that IP or session suspicious; it does not mean the proxy is broken.

If CAPTCHAs become frequent, lower the query rate, stop pushing the same IP and check your session settings (language, cookies, User-Agent). Using CAPTCHA-solving services to raise query volume falls under automation that Yandex rules prohibit. The meaning of codes such as 429 and 403 is covered in the proxy error codes guide.

How do you check Yandex Direct ads with a proxy?

Yandex Direct ads run with region, device and time targeting. An ad manager looking from Istanbul cannot see a campaign that targets Moscow in the search results. A check from a residential IP in the target city answers these questions:

  • Does the ad appear in the targeted city, and in which position?
  • Are the headline, text, sitelinks and display URL correct?
  • Which messages do competitors show on the same query?

Keep the check to one sticky session and a few page loads. Do not click ads through a proxy: automated or artificial clicks on your own or competitors’ ads count as invalid traffic, affect the advertiser’s budget and violate Yandex Direct rules. For the ad verification setup, see the ad verification use case.

When are Yandex Webmaster, Metrica and the official APIs enough?

For much of the data about your own site, you do not need a proxy. Yandex’s official tools provide it directly:

  • Yandex Webmaster. Shows which queries your site appears for, average position, clicks, indexing status, crawl errors and the site’s region setting. The Webmaster API lets you pull this data into your own reports.
  • Yandex Metrica. An analytics tool that shows which regions and which search queries visitors come from.
  • Yandex Wordstat. Shows keyword search frequency by region.
  • Yandex Search API. Yandex’s official API for programmatic access to search results (the service formerly known as Yandex.XML). Check its terms and quotas in Yandex’s current documentation.

A proxy makes sense for what these tools do not show: how the search page actually looks in a specific city, where ads and local blocks sit, and how competitors appear. If query volume is large or you turn results into regular automated reports, consider the official API first.

How do you use a Yandex proxy for Türkiye and CIS markets?

Yandex’s regional structure is also tied to country domains. In Russia, search opens on ya.ru and yandex.ru, in Kazakhstan on yandex.kz, in Belarus on yandex.by and in Türkiye on yandex.com.tr. When the country domain and the IP’s country differ, Yandex may redirect you to another version or interpret the region differently.

  • Russia and CIS checks. Use rotating residential IPs with city targeting in the target country. Confirm before buying that the location is available in the pool.
  • Türkiye checks. Monitor yandex.com.tr results, Yandex Direct campaigns aimed at Turkish audiences and visibility for Turkish queries with a Türkiye IP. WeProxy’s Türkiye static residential IPv4 packages use IPs on the Türk Telekom and Vodafone networks and support HTTP and SOCKS5. Türkiye packages have no UDP; Yandex search runs over TCP, so this is not a limitation.
  • Multi-country reports. Define a separate profile, proxy and lr value for each country and city; keep results in one table with a city column.

How do you set up a Yandex proxy?

  1. Choose the product. For multi-city rank checks, Rotating Residential IPv4 or Premium Rotating Residential; for fixed checks from Türkiye or account work, Static Residential IPv4.
  2. Buy in the panel and get the details. After payment, host, port, username and password appear in the customer panel. Instead of username/password you can also authorize by IP whitelist; both work on HTTP and SOCKS5. Country, city and sticky session options are set in the format shown in the panel.
  3. Enter them in your tool. In a browser profile, rank tracker software or your own script, set the proxy type (HTTP or SOCKS5), host, port, username and password. To convert between formats, use the proxy format converter.
  4. Verify the exit. Check on the my IP tool that the IP, country and city are the expected values. Quick check from the command line:
curl -x "http://USER:[email protected]:8989" https://api.ipify.org
  1. Run the first test. Open Yandex in a clean browser profile, search one query with the target city’s lr value (for example https://yandex.ru/search/?text=...&lr=213) and check that the region indicator on the page shows the expected city. Compare the results with those from your own connection.

Which rules and limits apply when using a Yandex proxy?

Yandex’s terms of use restrict sending automated queries to the search service and point to the official API for programmatic access. A proxy does not change these terms. Low-volume, manual or semi-manual regional checks and large-scale automated SERP collection do not carry the same level of risk; for the latter, use the official Yandex Search API.

What a proxy cannot do:

  • It gives no guarantee against CAPTCHAs, blocks or account restrictions. Yandex also bases its decisions on query rate, session behavior and browser signals.
  • It does not change rankings or ad performance; it only shows what is visible from a given region.
  • It does not make artificial clicks, fake visits or behavioral factor manipulation acceptable. Such traffic violates Yandex rules and counts as invalid traffic for ads.

The purposes for which WeProxy services may be used are set out in the acceptable use policy.
