WeProxy Proxy Setup For iPhone And iPad
The built-in iOS proxy setting belongs to one Wi-Fi network, takes only an HTTP proxy, and does not apply to mobile data. Enter the server, port, and username/password in Wi-Fi settings; for SOCKS5 or mobile data, use a proxy app from the App Store.
iPhone and iPad have a built-in HTTP proxy setting for each Wi-Fi network. It supports a server, port, and username/password, but it does not apply to mobile data and it does not support SOCKS5. For SOCKS5, mobile data, or per-app rules, use a proxy app from the App Store. This guide covers both ways.
Before You Start
From the WeProxy customer panel, copy the proxy details for the product you want to use. Panels often show them as host:port:user:pass; each part goes into its own field on iOS.
| iOS field | WeProxy value |
|---|---|
| Server | Host, for example gw.weproxy.com.tr |
| Port | Port from the panel |
| Username | Proxy username |
| Password | Proxy password |
The iOS Wi-Fi setting only takes an HTTP proxy. If your product only offers SOCKS5, skip to the proxy app section.
Setting an HTTP Proxy on Wi-Fi
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap the (i) button next to the network you are connected to.
- Scroll down and tap Configure Proxy under HTTP Proxy.
- Select Manual (marker 1 in the image).
- Enter the WeProxy host in Server and the port in Port (marker 2).
- Turn on Authentication and enter the username and password (marker 3).
- Tap Save (marker 4).
The setting belongs to this Wi-Fi network only. On another Wi-Fi network or on mobile data, the iPhone connects directly.
Using the Proxy on Mobile Data (and SOCKS5)
The proxy you add in iPhone settings only works on that Wi-Fi network, and iOS has no built-in SOCKS5 setting. Proxy apps solve this by creating a local VPN profile on the device and sending traffic to your proxy. Common options in the App Store are Shadowrocket (paid) and Potatso (free); availability and prices can change by country.
- Install the app from the App Store and open it.
- Tap + to add a server and choose the type: SOCKS5, or HTTP if your product uses HTTP (marker 1).
- Enter the WeProxy host in Address and the port in Port (marker 2).
- Enter the username and password; give the entry a name such as WeProxy (marker 3).
- Save the entry (marker 4) and turn on the connection switch on the main screen.
- When iOS asks to add a VPN configuration, allow it. The app uses it to route traffic on the device; it is not a separate VPN service.
Once connected, the app routes all of the phone's traffic through the proxy on both Wi-Fi and mobile data. You do not need the Wi-Fi proxy setting at the same time.
Only enter your proxy details into apps you trust, and remove the entry when you no longer use it.
Verifying the Connection
Open the WeProxy IP check tool in Safari. The page should show the proxy exit IP, not your own. If it does not change, turn Wi-Fi off and on, or switch the app connection off and on again.
Common iOS Proxy Errors
Password prompt keeps appearing or 407 error
The username or password is wrong, or Authentication is off. Copy the details from the panel again. In the iOS fields, type the password as it is; special characters only need encoding when you use a URL format such as http://user:pass@host:port.
Pages do not load after saving
Check the port first. A wrong port or a SOCKS5-only port in the Wi-Fi HTTP field blocks the connection. Set Configure Proxy to Off to get back online, then fix the details.
The IP keeps changing
Rotating products change the exit IP by design. If you need the same IP for a session, use a sticky session or a static product; the session time is set on the WeProxy side, not in iOS.
Turning Off the Proxy
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Configure Proxy and choose Off. In a proxy app, turn off the connection switch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the proxy not work on mobile data?
iOS stores the proxy setting per Wi-Fi network, and there is no such field for mobile data. A proxy app that works like a VPN, such as Shadowrocket, sends the traffic through the proxy on mobile data too.
Can I use a SOCKS5 proxy on iPhone without an app?
No. The built-in setting only supports HTTP proxies. SOCKS5 needs a proxy app such as Shadowrocket or Potatso.
Is the setup different on iPad?
No. iPadOS uses the same Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Configure Proxy path.
